The story

Agriturismo La Maestà is a country residence of the 1400 that rises in the middle of an unspoilt natural environment, in the heart of Umbria, a few kilometers from the city center of Foligno, in the small village of Carpel.

The history of Carpello, which is known exactly, brings us to the year 1216 when St. Clare of Assisi came to this place and bought a small land near the source of Carpello. Here she built the first Calrisse monastery in Foligno.

In 1849 the Pope, after tasting the oil from these areas, wanted to promote the deforestation of the area above Carpello to plant tens of thousands of olive trees, still extant.

Since 1300 there were small parcels fenced with a few olive trees and at that time were created large extensions that were in the hands of a few families.

The Farm, founded 30 years ago by the passion and tenacity of our parents, consists of:

  • The farmhouse dedicated to the guests

  • The manor house and the winery

  • The crops

    • The vineyard, the Olive grove
    • The garden and the herbs
    • Breeding and beekeeping
The buildings have been recently refurbished and are subject to the regional direction for the cultural and landscape heritage of Umbria, as they are rich in architectural and landscape details of great interest and beauty.
In fact, the original structure with terracotta floors and exposed ceiling beams and other typical elements of the Umbrian villas and farmhouses is still preserved intact.
Our farm produces wine, extra-virgin olive oil, honey, fruit and vegetables in season.
All our products are made with vegetables and fruit grown in our company. For example, fruit jams are prepared in strict compliance with hygienic standards, at low temperature and using the vacuum technique in order to guarantee products with the best organoleptic qualities. We do not use preservatives, thickeners or dyes to alter the flavour, colour and vitamin content of the fruit. Every jam and every fruit nectar keeps the taste and the genuine perfume of the fresh fruit.

The “Maestà Bella”

The name of the farmhouse pays homage to a shrine sacred to the “beautiful Majesty”, “La Maestà Bella”, so called for the elegance and refinement of the fresco incorporated inside a newsstand attributable to the second half of 1400, which is located in the small village of Carpel, painted by the painter Folignate Mesastris, of which is still visible an inscription with handwritten signature. It is the only newsstand signed by the artist in the open countryside, there is only one other near Todi, but attached to a church.

The Farmhouse

The Agriturismo was founded in a 15th century country Villa, subject to the bond of cultural heritage to preserve its original beauty; our Guests can walk on the original terracotta floors and rest under exposed wooden beamed ceilings.
The eight rooms have been renovated maintaining their own personality, to make our guests feel at home.
On the first floor there is the fireplace room where guests like to relax and enjoy the pleasure of a good wine.
The restaurant is located in the veranda with large windows and fireplace.

The rooms

The rooms Timo, on the ground floor, Linden, Valerian, Arnica and Angelica, on the 1st floor, are our doubles.

A unprintable for the Angelica Room: Located in an almost private area of the house; It is a spacious double bedroom with large panoramic windows and a beautiful bathroom outside the room but adjacent to it.

In front of the Angelica room is the room Arnica, carved in the turret “dovecote” which is accessed through some steps.

La Family Room

The two units together create a comfortable family Room to accommodate families or couples of friends, a solution very appreciated by our guests, considering that this is an area of the agriturismo that guarantees absolute privacy.

The Gentian room, on the ground floor, and lavender, on the 1st floor, are our Triple rooms, with double bed and single bed.

The Chamomile Room, on the ground floor, is our quadruple room, with double bed and two single beds. This is perhaps one of the most atypical, having the fireplace in the room and direct access to the outside patio.

Originalità e comfort

The rooms are all different in size and furnishings, they all have different identities, but in all you can see the attention placed in the renovation and the choice of furnishings, composed of unique pieces, without neglecting the comforts of the 21st century.

Also the bathrooms of all our rooms are different from each other, some with shower others with bathtub.

Some rooms on the ground floor are suitable to accommodate guests with reduced mobility.

The kitchen and our products

In the beautiful glass room or, in spring and summer, in the garden we propose a rich breakfast and dishes of cuisine, purely seasonal and territorial, where the aromatic herbs, the vegetables grown in the field adjoining the manor house, are the ingredients Main used in the kitchen.
